Poverty Reduction Worker
1 yr term contract – Full-time position – 35 hours per week
The Poverty Reduction Worker will be working in the context of a unique project that is a partnership between the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre (EORC) and Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard (the Food Bank). This project will explore an alternative, sustainable model to provide food security support and non-food related support and will focus on empowering community members and connecting them to supports and resources that address the root causes of their food security. Reporting to both the Program Manager at the EORC and the Executive Director at the Food Bank, the Poverty Reduction Worker will be physically located at the food banks located within the EORC’s catchment area.
As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Poverty Reduction Worker responds to all requests and provides wraparound services to the users of the food banks. Using a holistic approach, focused on the client and their strengths, the Poverty Reduction Worker intervenes with users of the food banks to analyze their needs, develop with them a personalized intervention plan, support in the implementation of the intervention plan in collaboration with the other team members and community partners and assesses the needs of the client and refers to appropriate resources. The worker provides information, advocacy and refers to other services, if necessary.
